Tanoto Foundation Opens Applications for 2026 Fellowship to Develop Future Leaders in Education and Social Development

Jakarta, 14 April 2026 – Tanoto Foundation has officially opened applications for the 2026 Tanoto Foundation Fellowship Programme, inviting young Indonesians to contribute to the country’s education transformation while developing their leadership capabilities.

As Indonesia continues to strengthen its human capital, significant challenges remain. The World Bank Human Capital Index (2020) places Indonesia at 0.54, meaning that a child born is expected to reach only 54% of their full productivity potential, even with access to quality education and healthcare. Addressing this gap requires sustained, cross-sector efforts aligned with Indonesia’s long-term vision, including the Golden Indonesia Vision 2045, which prioritizes human capital development as a national pillar.

Positioning young people as key drivers of change, the Tanoto Foundation Fellowship Programme is designed to equip early-career talent with hands-on experience in social development and education. Participants will work alongside experts, contribute to real programmes, and gain practical insights into addressing complex development challenges.

Selected candidates, known as Tanoto Fellows, will undergo a one-year placement across the Foundation’s regional offices in Riau, North Sumatra, Central Java, and East Kalimantan. During this period, Fellows will be directly involved in initiatives that support education quality improvement and community capacity building.

“This programme is designed to bridge learning and real-world impact. Fellows are not only exposed to concepts but are also challenged to engage with real issues on the ground and develop practical solutions. It is an opportunity for young leaders to translate their ideas into meaningful contributions to Indonesia’s social development,” said Yosea Kurnianto, Head of Leadership Development & Scholarship at Tanoto Foundation.

Beyond field exposure, Fellows will benefit from a structured development experience that includes leadership training, mentorship from experienced practitioners, and project-based learning. The programme also provides a competitive monthly allowance, funding support for social initiatives, and access to the Tanoto Fellows Network, an alumni community that fosters continuous learning and collaboration.
