4 - chairman & ibu1Dear Friends,

Education has become our attention since long. We both dropped out of school and didn’t finish the level of high school, but we didn’t stop learning. We always use the opportunity to learn anytime and anywhere, either through books, magazines, dictionary, and then we had the  opportunity to get a business school.

If we look around us, a lot of people who have limited access to quality education.  Often it occurs because of poverty. They do not have the opportunity to empower themselves and lifted out of poverty.

To help people who are less fortunate, we make philantrophic activities in 1981 by establishing kindergartens and primary school in Besitang, North Sumatera. From that moment, our programs rapidly developed into an integrated social builder program.

Schools were originally built to facilitate children, has become a place to empower parents in improving livelihoods as well as for the whole society to improve the quality of life in country. This is the forerunner to the establishment of Tanoto Foundation.

As the founder of the Tanoto Foundation, we envision a future where children and families thrive in a society that defend the values and best traditional culture.

We believe that an effective poverty reduction requires a holistic approach that includes education, empowerment, and improved quality of life. Therefore, the Tanoto Foundation in cooperation with communities and other partners to address the root causes of poverty around our company. We want to focus on rural areas, where poverty is most prevalent.

This time, the Tanoto Foundation activities have a positive impact on the lives of thousands of beneficiaries. However, we remain committed to reaching and helping more communities in eradicating poverty.
