About Us

Tanoto Foundation is an independent philanthropic organization founded by Sukanto Tanoto and Tinah Bingei Tanoto based on the belief that every person should have the opportunity to realize his or her full potential. Tanoto Foundation started its work in 1981 when our founders established a kindergarten and elementary school in Besitang, North Sumatra.

Tanoto Foundation’s programs stem from the belief that quality education accelerates equal opportunity. We harness the transformative strength of education to realize people’s full potential and improve lives.

Sukanto Tanoto & Tinah Bingei inaugurated kindergarten and elementary school in rural Besitang, North Sumatra.

2001

Established Tanoto Foundation in Singapore Launched Tanoto Foundation scholarship at Singapore Management University

2006

Launched National Champion Scholarship Program

2009

Funded Duke – NUS Diabetes Research and Professorship Launched scholarship for NUS Yoo Loo Lin School of Medicine

2010

Launched Pelita Pendidikan School Improvement Program

2013

Launched the Tanoto Foundation Initiative at Wharton School

2014

Launched Early Childhood Program in Jakarta

2015

Inaugurated Tanoto Forestry Information Centre at IPB, Bogor

Supported One Belt Road Initiative

Tanoto Foundation China officially registered
